Self-Defence: Moving Beyond the Physical
This course is directed towards women-identified people on campus, especially women who experience additional types of marginalization due to race or ethnicity, ability, and gender presentation.
Wen-Do focuses on women’s safety and empowerment, preparing participants to defend themselves both mentally and physically, and giving women the confidence to deal with the range of types of aggression they are most likely to encounter in real life. The techniques we teach are practical and easy to learn, and the learning environment is safe, supportive, and full of positive energy. In this 1-hour workshop, we’ll cover the fundamentals of women’s self-defence through a feminist, anti-oppression analysis, the importance of using our voices, a sample of body weapons, blocks, a range of releases, and we will break down stereotypes about violence against women.
