Union Solidarity CUPE 1281

I am contacting you as  CUPE 1281 Chief Steward and as one of eight members of CUPE 1281 who work as staff at the York University Faculty Association (YUFA), itself a certified union under the Ontario Labour Relations Act. You can read more about what we do as YUFA staff here.

For the first time in over ten years in CUPE 1281, a sub local within CUPE 1281 has been forced out on a picket line. Key issues we are fighting for include stronger harassment and discrimination protections in our workplace and defending our work from being contracted out, along with improved job security.

We have immediate requests for support.

First, we are asking supporters and their respective organizations to please write a letter of solidarity on behalf of your organizations, addressed to the YUFA President Ellie Perkins at esperk@yorku.ca  and the YUFA bargaining team at yufa@yorku.ca to express your indignation at their deplorable actions in pushing their staff union out on strike.  We would also ask that you copy the YUFA staff sub-local at shopsteward1281atyufa@gmail.com.

Secondly, we are asking you to circulate this e-petition to your friends, co-workers, and/or employers which sends a letter to the YUFA Executive officers demanding that they return to the bargaining table with a fair deal for their staff.
